Pictured here is an old church directory from the church on Arch and Reay Street when Cledith Hefner was Pastor. Notice that the phone numbers only have three or four digits. Oh, for the good old days!
"Best Wishes to All Our Friends" is the greeting found on this early Christmas card from Pastor Hefner, his wife, and their eight children. Recently, one of his children returned "home" and was kind enough to let us scan several of these priceless pictures you see on this page.
Our early location in Morgantown was on Arch and Reay Street and this is one of the nicest pictures we have of this church. The church is still standing today, but you may not recognize it at first glance.
"Do You Believe?" was the topic on February 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the Alliance Gospel Tabernacle in Grafton, WV. Rev. Hefner of the Morgantown alliance Church was one of the featured speakers. Both he and Rev. Bersche were on the Old-time Gospel program over station WMMN.
This 1938 CMA church calendar had a "hearty welcome always" and a message to "take the whole Bible to the whole world." This is still the heart of our message today.
Dress-up days are nothing new and early members of the church seemed to have as much fun as we do today.
This photo is courtesy of Jack W. Small and beautifuuly shows the "new sanctuary" at night.
Gospel meetings under the "big tent" were a part of our early church history. Several years ago we had tent meetings in our parking lot as a reminder of our heritage.
Groundbreaking for the "new sanctuary" (what is now the fellowship hall) occured on what appeared to be a somewhat blustery day. This picture was published in the local paper and on the back of it was stamped the name and address of the Alliance Witness, our official church magazine (now call aLife). Perhaps this picture appeared there also.
This is an early photograph of Pastor Douglas Miller preaching shortly after we moved into the new church on Patteson and Elmhurst. This photo is courtesy of Jack W. Small.
The annual church picnic is a custom in the Morgantown Alliance Church and this early photo shows a picnic setting around the year 1918.
Albert Simpson, a Presbyterian clergyman, founded The Christian and Missionary Alliance Church as a means of helping the multitudes of immigrants and metropolitan residents as well as taking the gospel to the unevangelized peoples in other lands.
